Polyester yarn and nylon yarn are the most productive yarn among synthetic yarns. In 2017, the whole world produces 61.58 million tons of synthetic fiber (except polyolefin fiber). Among them, there are 37.17 million tons of polyester filament yarn (55.5%), 16.6 million tons of polyester spun yarn (24.8%), and 4.93 million tons of nylon yarn (7.4%). As of 2021, China's chemical fiber output has ranked first in the world for 23 consecutive years.
Nylon Yarn Properties:
The biggest feature of nylon is high strength and good wear resistance.
The shortcomings of nylon are the same as polyester, with poor hygroscopicity and permeability. In a dry environment, nylon is prone to static electricity, and short fiber fabrics are also prone to fluff and pilling. Nylon's heat and light resistance are not good enough, so the ironing temperature should be controlled below 140°C. In addition, nylon has poor shape retention, and clothes made of it are not as stiff as polyester and are easily deformed. But it can be attached to the body and is a good material for making various body-shaped shirts.
Polyester Yarn Properties:
The biggest feature of polyester is stable quality, good strength, and abrasion resistance. The fabric made of polyester is stiff and not easy to deform, and the heat resistance of polyester is also strong. Polyester also has good chemical stability and will not interact with weak acids, weak bases, and oxidants at normal temperatures.
The disadvantage of polyester is that it has very poor moisture absorption, and the fabric woven by it is stuffy and airtight when worn on the body. In addition, due to the smooth surface of the fibers, the cohesive force between the fibers is poor, and it is easy to fluff and ball up in places where they are often rubbed.
Uses of Nylon Yarn & Polyester Yarn:
Nylon yarns are usually used in tent, webbing, sport seat belt, car seat belts, slings, sewing threads, parachutes, cord fabrics, conveyor belts, jackets, shoe uppers, garment, mesh cloth, fishing nets, and industrial applications.
Polyester yarns are usually used in cord fabrics, fishing nets, ropes, filter cloths, bedding, mosquito net, sofa, curtain, and industrial applications.
